Brief Introduction
Anhui Normal University is the earliest institution of higher learning in Anhui. It is located in Wuhu, a national open city with the reputation of “Huizhou style and Anhui style, the city of thousands of lakes”. It is close to the vast Yangtze River, surrounded by the beautiful Zhe Mountain, and has the natural beauty of Jiangnan. It is a university jointly established by the Anhui Provincial People’s Government and the Ministry of Education, a provincial key comprehensive university prioritized by the Anhui Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, and a key construction university with high-level characteristics of Anhui Province. It has been selected as a national key Marxist university. The college (the only one in Anhui Province) and one of the first batch of pilot units of the School of Journalism jointly established by the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee and the school won the title of the second “National Civilized Campus”.
The school’s predecessor was the Provincial Anhui University founded in Anqing City in 1928. It was renamed National Anhui University in 1946 and moved to Wuhu in December 1949. Later, it went through several stages of running schools, including Anhui Normal University, Hefei Normal University, Wannan University (the school was named by Liu Shaoqi), and Anhui Gongnong University. In 1972, with the approval of the State Council, it was officially named Anhui Normal University (Guo Moruo inscribed the school name). In 2005, Wuhu Normal College was integrated into Anhui Normal University.
In the course of more than ninety years of running the school, a large number of well-known experts such as Liu Wendian, Zhou Jianren, Yu Dafu, Su Xuelin, Chen Wangdao, Zhu Xiang, Zhu Guangqian, Wang Xinggong, Yang Lianggong, Cheng Yansheng, Tao Yin, Zhang Weici, Ding Xuxian, Xiang Nan, Xu Jie, etc. Scholars and social sages gathered on the banks of Linghu Lake and Jinghu Lake successively, writing books and preaching, and promoting education. After generations of teachers have devoted themselves to hard work, inspired practice, nurtured young students, and taught by words and deeds, the spirit of “being honest and simple, pursuing perfection, pursuing excellence, and constantly striving for self-improvement” has been honed, and the spirit of “rigorous scholarship, dedication, dedication, and self-improvement” has been forged. The teaching style of “teaching and educating people and being a role model” has cultivated a style of study of “diligence in study and careful thinking, simplicity and humility, unity of knowledge and practice, truth-seeking and innovation”, and condensed the school motto of “being virtuous, emphasizing education, erudition, and practicing sincerely”. Since its establishment, the school has trained more than 300,000 full-time higher specialized talents for the country.
The school currently has the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Marxism, the School of Law, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Music, the School of Fine Arts, the School of History, the School of Educational Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Physical Education, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and the School of Computer and Information , School of Physics and Electronic Information, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, School of Geography and Tourism, School of Life Sciences, School of Ecology and Environment, as well as 18 colleges including the School of Continuing Education, School of International Education, School of Teacher Education, and Anhui Normal University Jiang College, Affiliated Middle School, Affiliated Primary School and Affiliated Kindergarten.
The school’s disciplines cover 12 categories including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, management, art, and interdisciplinary subjects, forming different levels of doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s education. A complete talent training system of different types including full-time higher education, continuing education, and international student education. It has been selected into 6 peak disciplines and 4 peak cultivation disciplines in Anhui Province, 4 disciplines have entered the top 1% of ESI globally, 18 key disciplines in Anhui Province, and 3 major provincial discipline construction projects. There are currently 7 postdoctoral mobile stations, 11 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 29 first-level disciplines authorized for master’s degrees, 24 professional master’s degree authorized points, and 91 undergraduate majors.
