Brief Introduction

Origin

ZUST was founded in 1980, initially known as Hangzhou Industrial School Attached to Zhejiang University. Over 40 years’ development, ZUST has grown into a first-class application- oriented provincial university with distinctive international and regional characteristics.

Facilities

ZUST enjoys two fascinating campuses. XiaoHeshan Campus is situated in Xihu Scenic Area, adjacent to Xixi Wetland, covering a land of more than 126.7 hectares with 470,000 square meters’ buildings and construction. Anji Campus is located in Anji of Hu Zhou city the birthplace of Xi Jinping’s “Two Mountain Theory: Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, with a land of more than 66.7 hectares and 170,000 square meters’ buildings and construction. In the two campuses of ZUST are 17 schools and 1 teaching center which offer 57 undergraduate programs, 6 master’s academic degree programs under first-class disciplines, and 8 master’s professional degree programs. At present, there are more than 19000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students and nearly 1000 international students in ZUST. The total value of the teaching and research equipment of ZUST is about 500 million Yuan, and the volumes of books over 1.90 million.

Faculty

ZUST boasts a team of excellent talents with international vision, higher academic level, noble ethics and reasonable composition. There are nearly 1600 teaching staff, over 1200 of whom are full-time teachers, 530 of them with senior professional titles, 54% with doctoral degrees, 32% with more than 6 months’ overseas academic experience, 51% with Engineering practice experience. Among them are 16 national talents, such as the innovation team leaders of the Yangtze River Scholar and Innovation Team Development Plan, the candidates of the National “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand” Talents Project, the national scientific and technological innovation talents and entrepreneurship of the “Ten Thousand Talents Plan”, and the young and middle-aged national experts with outstanding contributions, as well as more than 120 provincial such talents.

Upholding the motto of “Virtue and Truth, Creativity and Practicality”, ZUST has been being committed to establishing a new modern applied university in German model with Chinese characteristics for a long time, by adhering to the educational concept “apply what we have learned and make an all-round development” so as to forge “a cradle of outstanding engineers”, for which education reform and practice have been being actively carried out all the time to cultivate high-quality applied talents with practice ability, innovation spirit, international vision and social responsibility.

Excellences

ZUST has achieved 6 provincial first-class disciplines and established 13 scientific research and innovation platforms and think tanks such as the provincial key laboratories, the provincial international science and technology cooperation bases, the national and regional research center of the Ministry of Education, etc. In addition, ZUST has jointly founded 1 research center with the Industrial Culture Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, cooperatively built with local governments 19 local research institutes and centers for scientific research and development, or for scientific and technological transfer or transformation, and successfully created 3 key science and technology innovation teams of Zhejiang Province and 2 science and technology innovation teams of Zhejiang provincial universities. Besides, ZUST has won over 40 ministerial or provincial scientific research awards, including 2 national science and technology prizes in recent years.

Fortes

ZUST is the pilot institution of Chinese-German cooperation in the area of application-orientated talent cultivation by the Ministry of Education; it is also the pilot university involved in Excellent Engineers Education and Training Plan of the Ministry of Education. In addition, ZUST has been selected as one of the universities to actualize the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program for College Students, and as one of the universities to effectuate the National “13th Five-Year” Education Modernization Promotion Project——Industry-Education Integration Development Project. Besides, ZUST holds the leadership in Digital Manufacturing Industry-education Integration Alliance in Zhejiang province. To the end, ZUST has established 8 national teaching and practice platforms, and 24 ministerial or provincial teaching and practice platforms, such as the Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base of the Ministry of Education, etc. Besides, ZUST is constructing 9 National First-class Featured Undergraduate Majors and 33 Provincial First-class Undergraduate Majors; 7 majors have passed the certification of China Engineering Education, and 3 majors have passed the certification by the German Council for Professional Certification.
